Margo Price leaves her mark with an extraordinary performance on iconic music television program The Voice. The country singer performed “Change of Heart” from her 2020 album That’s How Rumors Get Started and one song from “I Know How Rumors Get Started.”

Price’s 2023 project Strays II, released this week via Loma Vista Recordings as a double album in three parts, continues her psychedelic storyline with contributions from producer Jonathan Wilson as well as Big Thief members Buck Meek and Ny Oh from Big Thief.

Margo Price: Exclusive

Margo Price has never given up her dreams. After leaving college to pursue music full-time in 2003, the Tennessee native dropped out to pursue it full-time; slowly but surely her career took off following 2016’s Midwest Farmer’s Daughter for Jack White’s Third Man Records. Since then she has made appearances on CBS Morning Show, Late Late Show with Sharon Van Etten and hosted live CMT Crossroads event alongside Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats; written a memoir; celebrated Willie Nelson at Newport Folk Festival; released two country-rockers with her band The Pricetags; reigned 14 weeks at No.1 Americana radio with “Change of Heart”, plus much more.

On her 2023 album Strays, singer-songwriter Kelly Willis continues her experimental musical exploration beyond traditional country and folk aesthetics and into psychedelia and dreamlike territory, resulting in an album that defies categorization. While songs such as ‘Hurtin’ On the Bottle’ and ‘I Would Die for You’ give an indication of her past musical direction, Willis clearly wants to express herself without conforming to expectations; rather, she wants to simply be herself.

Margo Price: Performance

Consequence is proud to feature Margo Price’s powerful performance of “Been to the Mountain,” recorded live at Jonathan Wilson’s Topanga studio and part of 2023’s Strays II album release. Price’s performance provides another powerful testament of love, loss and forgiveness that resonates across her early LP releases this year.

Price and her six-piece band opened the hour alongside Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway with two songs each from Strays II and 2020’s That’s How Rumors Get Started to kickstart the episode. A highlight performance came courtesy of “Crooked Tree,” an anthem celebrating individuality; to emphasize its significance during her radiant performance without her trademark wig – creating a stunning effect and sending ripples through the crowd.

Over this busy summer, Price has not only produced Jessi Colter album Edge of Forever) but has also hosted a tribute to John Prine at Newport Folk Festival, played shows with Tyler Childers and My Morning Jacket as well as published an important essay for Rolling Stone on gun control issues, met with Tennessee lawmakers, sang at Parkland memorial services as well as joined in singing vigils for victims. Looking ahead, she will continue blazing her own path by touring with both Strays II and That’s How Rumors Get Started so check TicketSmarter today to plan ahead and catch one of her shows!
